Palakkad: G Gopika, the girl who had been battling against odds ever since she lost her family in the tragic Pettimudi landslip, has finally fulfilled her parents’ dream.
She was on cloud nine as she secured admission to Palakkad Medical College, on Saturday.
The girl and her sister had lost 24 of her family members and relatives, including her parents, in the Pettimudi landslide on August 6, 2020.
After the tragedy, the Kerala government had declared Gopika as the adopted daughter of the state.
“I had online classes that day and was having connectivity issues. So I went to my cousin’s house in Thiruvananthapuram. That’s when the tragedy took place,” recalled Gopika.
Afterwards, she passed her plus two exams with flying colours from Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom. Her sister Hemalatha is a final year B.Sc Botany student at Kerala University.
She prepared for the medical entrance examination at Brilliant Study Centre in Pala and has now secured admission to Palakkad Medical College in the first allotment itself.
“Before my classes begin, I need to go to Munnar, visit the place where my parents are buried and seek their blessings,” said Gopika.
