Karipur: The customs officials on Tuesday seized gold worth Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 12 lakh foreign currency in two different incidents at Karipur airport. Four people have been booked in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Kasaragod natives Abdul Salam (33), Abdul Sharif, Malappuram native Rafique (33) and Kozhikode native Shabeer Ali (38).
The smuggled gold was found hidden inside their body. Reportedly, a total of 1059 grams of gold has been seized from them.
Meantime, foreign currency was recovered from Shabeer Ali, who was planning to smuggle the money abroad via Air India Express Kozhikode - Sharjah flight.
