Gold smuggling: ED moves HC against judicial commission

Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved high court against the judicial commission that was appointed by the government to probe into the gold smuggling case. The ED argued in the court that the commission was trying to sabotage the case and it was appointed illegally.

The state government appointed Justice V K Mohanan as the judicial commission to examine the illegal interventions made into the probe by central investigation agencies. The ED moved the high court seeking stay on this action.

The state government appointed the commission by misusing their powers. As the central agency submitted the charge sheet, the state's action will only serve to weaken the case, ED alleged.

Earlier, the judicial commission had published an advertisement via newspapers inviting interested people to join as party in the commission. Also it stated that those who have evidence can produce them. The ED moved the court when the last date for submission ends on June 26.
