Gold smuggling: Customs to quiz CM’s former IT Fellow Arun Balachandran, journalist Anil Nambiar
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister’s former IT Fellow Arun Balachandran and journalist Anil Nambiar will be questioned by Customs officials in connection with the gold smuggling case.
A notice was served to Arun as part of interrogation. However, there is lack of clarity over whether Arun will appear for the quizzing. Arun had earlier told media that he had booked an apartment for Swapna Suresh, one of the accused in the gold smuggling case, as instructed by CM’s former Principal Secretary M Sivasankar. The probe that followed had found the key accused in the case were staying in this apartment. Arun will be questioned in this regard.
The Customs team will interrogate journalist Anil Nambiar on Thursday. He will appear at the Kochi Customs office before noon. Anil is a key witness in the gold smuggling case. Customs had found that Swapna Suresh and Anil had contacted over phone on the same day the gold was seized at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.
Swapna had given statement that Anil helped to forge documents to prove the gold was not smuggled. The probe team expects to collect more information in this regard by questioning Anil.
