Gold smuggling: Court to monitor progress in case investigated by Customs
Kochi: The court has decided to observe the progress made by the Customs Department in the gold smuggling case.
The investigation report has to be submitted to the court after every 3 months. The decision was taken after Swapna Suresh’s statement was leaked.
The court’s verdict came in the petition filed by Swapna Suresh demanding action after her statement was leaked. The court said that the investigation report will have to be filed after every 3 months.
The court also demanded that action should be taken against the officer concerned in connection with the incident. The court also asked the Customs commissioner to inform the court in a sealed envelope what action was taken.
The court also observed that supervision was necessary for justice to be served. The court made these statements after criticising the Customs Department for not handing over the details in the case related to M Sivasankar.
The court also accepted the demand for extending M Sivasankar’s custody. He has been sent under the custody of the Customs Department until December 7.
