Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is being pressurised to take action against IT Secretary M Sivasankar IAS in connection with the gold smuggling case. According to sources, he might be removed from the post. Prior to this action, explanation will be sought from him.

Sivasankar, who is also the Principal Secretary of Chief Minister, has become a headache to the government. It was not long ago, he initiated the agreement with American firm Sprinklr on details of Covid patients and suspects, without the knowledge of CM and cabinet.

Sivasankar has now made headlines with his links to Swapna Suresh, the key conspirator in the gold smuggling case at Thiruvananthapuram international airport in form of diplomatic baggage addressed to the UAE consulate.

The main question government faces now is how an accused in a crime branch case, who was questioned twice, was appointed to IT department.

Though Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he was unaware of the factors behind the appointment of the woman and would look into the matter, it wouldn’t be easy to protect Sivasakar as done in Sprinklr agreement by cancelling it.
