Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran condemned the NIA investigation into the gold smuggling case for ignoring the links between the Kerala Chief Minister's office and the smugglers.
He noted that NIA probe should not be limited to matters related to terrorism. The Congress leader demanded that NIA should probe the political corruption of VIPs and appointments made under the LDF government related to the case.
“Does BJP consider the Kerala Chief Minister as a sacred cow? All the deals related to the gold smuggling were centred on the Chief Minister’s office. In many phases, the smugglers received help from the CM’ s office. Swapna Suresh, the second accused in the case, got an appointment in the IT department as the CM’s office ignored a special branch report which revealed her criminal background,” alleged Mullappally.
“When over 10,000 candidates are waiting to get shortlisted by PSC, this government is appointing CPM well-wishers and relatives without considering their qualification or rules. Now, Kerala government has topped in the employment scam by beating Madhya Pradesh within 4 years of gaining power,” he added.
“Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case is a crime which was conspired with proper planning. Hence, the involvement of the Chief Minister and his office should be probed. If necessary, the Chief Minister should be questioned. It is for the first time in the world that diplomatic baggage was used for gold smuggling. Apart from giving a job, the official in the Chief Minister's office arranged a flat for the woman who is an accused in the case. All these facts reveal links between the accused and the Chief Minister’s office,” alleged the KPCC president.
He also criticized the central government for not ordering a CBI probe into the case. He alleged that there are chances to undermine the case as the state and central governments are acting hand in glove to delay the probe.
