Kochi: Customs officials held a meeting in Kochi to decide on the investigation in connection with the gold smuggling case. The meeting was held in the context of allegations being raised against the customs department as well. Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner Aneesh Rajan refused to respond to the allegations.
There were reports that the CM’s office had intervened to release the diplomatic baggage seized with the smuggled gold. However, Aneesh Rajan had stated that those reports were wrong. Following this, BJP state president K Surendran alleged that Aneesh Rajan had links with CPM.
On his way to attend the customs department meeting, Aneesh Rajan told the media that he does not want to comment on anything. Meanwhile, the customs commissioner postponed his scheduled press conference.
It is reported that the head of the UAE consulate will be interrogated in the next phase of the investigation. This needs the approval of the central government due to diplomatic protection. Customs officials suspect consulate employees to be involved in the smuggling.
It is also reported that some famous advocates in Kochi have been approached by those close to Swapna Suresh in an effort to procure an anticipatory bail.
