Kochi: The special court here on Monday handed over a copy of the gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh's confidential statement to the Enforcement Directorate. Swapna had given this confidential statement before the customs officials earlier. The court which deals with economic offences issued a copy of this statement to ED after receiving a request from the ED officials.

The court will consider the plea demanding Swapna's confidential statement regarding dollar smuggling on June 22 after hearing the arguments of the Customs lawyer.

It was in 2020, Swapna had recorded the confidential statements on both gold and dollar smuggling cases before the Customs. In an affidavit filed at the High Court, the Customs commissioner Sumit Kumar had stated that Swapna had given statements against the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan.

Though ED had approached the court by demanding a copy of the confidential statements several times, the court dismissed the pleas due to the dissent of the Customs. However, the court decided to grant a copy now as the Customs investigation over the gold smuggling case has been winded up.
