Gold smuggling accused Sandeep Nair expresses willingness to turn approver
Kochi: In a crucial move, one of the key accused in gold smuggling case, Sandeep Nair is likely to turn approver in the case. He has submitted a letter stating his willingness for the same at the court.
As per Sandeep’s request, the NIA court in Kochi has granted permission to record his confession statement. His confidential statement will be recorded soon, under CrPC section 164. After inspecting this, the NIA will take a decision on his request.
Sandeep has been named second accused in the gold smuggling case. He is also the person who has close links with gold smuggling mastermind KT Ramees. If Sandeep turns approver, more strong evidences can be obtained in the case and the probe might even move to high-profile officials, it is evaluated.
The lack of solid evidences in the case has affected the continuity of the probe. NIA had tried to turn two Muvvattupuzha natives as approvers. Amidst all this, Sandeep expressed his willingness to turn approver.
