Nadakkavu: A 19-year-old girl committed suicide here on Sunday after she was reportedly denied permission to write exams. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Anikha, a native of Nadakkavu.

Anikha is a student of SRM College, Chennai. Her parents have lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the college authorities forbade the girl from attending exams.

Reportedly, Anikha, who had been doing a Respiratory Therapy course at the college, was denied permission to attend the first semester exams, scheduled on Monday, citing attendance shortage.

According to the college authorities, 80 per cent attendance is mandatory to write semester exams. However, Anikha only had 67 per cent attendance as she had to take leave owing to health issues, said her family members.

As per reports, the girl was informed that she cannot attend exams, only after paying the semester and exam fees. Following which, she came home on December 20, 2022 and was not ready to go back.

Anikha was going through severe mental stress for the past few days, said her relatives.
