Thrissur: A girl drowned in a check dam near Chittanda here on Sunday. The deceased is identified as Shafa (17), a Chavakad native.
The incident happened around 9:30 am on Sunday. Shafa joined her friends to bathe in the check dam located deep inside the forest. Later, her friends found Shafa missing and informed the locals. Though the locals rushed to the spot and started a search, Shafa drowned in the waters. The local retrieved her body later.
The group visited the place after trekking one-and-half kilometres through the forest where no safety arrangments were available.
