Gas leaks after tanker overturns on NH in Kasaragod; Locals evicted
Kasaragod: A cooking gas tanker met with an accident on the Kasaragod-Mangaluru national highway in the wee hours of Wednesday resulting in leakage of gas. The tanker that was going from Mangaluru to Coimbatore happened to overturn in the road near Adukkathubayal at about 2 in the morning.
Following the mishap, the gas was shifted to another tanker. The district collector has declared a holiday on October 16, Wednesday, for Adukkathubayal Government UP School which is situated near the accident spot.
When the tanker overturned, the front cabin of the lorry and gas tank got separated and gas started to leak through the valve from the front side. Traffic was disrupted on the national highway following the accident.
Later, police and fireforce arrived at the place and sealed the leak temporarily. As a precautionary measure, the local residents were evicted from houses and power connection disconnected in the area.
District police chief and other officials are present at the spot. Traffic in Mangaluru-Kasaragod national highway is completely banned. Vehicles are diverted to other parallel routes.
