Kozhikode: A truck driver transporting garbage from Kochi to Maharashtra found himself stranded on the highway after running out of diesel. Imam Hussain, the driver, has been stuck near the Thondayad bypass in Kozhikode for ten days, with foul-smelling waste on his vehicle.
Imam Hussain, a resident of Hubli, Karnataka, arrived in Kochi two weeks ago with a shipment of household products. An agency in Kozhikode loaded the truck with garbage for transportation on the return journey. The driver was promised Rs 24,000 to transport waste out of Kerala. Normally, garbage is handed over to individuals with carts who collect it along the way, as per Imam's statement.
However, this time, Imam Hussain did not receive the promised payment. As he reached Thondayad, the truck ran out of diesel. Despite several attempts to contact the person responsible for the payment, there was no response. To make matters worse, during the night, while Imam was sleeping in the vehicle, someone stole his mobile phone and money. With the assistance of local residents, he filed a complaint at the nearby police station, but is yet to receive assistance.
Imam Hussain explains that he cannot sleep inside the truck due to the unbearable stench emanating from the garbage. However, nearby shopkeepers have come forward to help him by providing food and water during this difficult time.
