Kollam: KB Ganesh Kumar MLA on Thursday said he is ready to arrange all facilities for the treatment of wounded jumbo ‘Dhoni’ aka ‘PT 7’ (Palakkad Tusker). The Elephant Owners Federation Kerala shall facilitate the treatment for the animal.
“PT 7 could have been injured due to shots fired from country-made guns. It would have become violent owing to severe pain. The action taken against the tusker was inhuman,” said Ganesh Kumar.
“It is true that farmers had to face troubles. However, it is necessary that we understand the mind of animals before approaching them. The elephant attacked people as it could not bear the pain of the pellets that pierced its body,” he said.
“As far as I know, PT 7 might be around 18 - 20 years old. I am ready to arrange doctors and will do anything I can,” he added.
Earlier, an examination carried out by the forest department officials found the presence of around 15 gun pellets inside PT’s body. The forest officials have reportedly removed some of the pellets themselves.
