Kollam: Some unidentified miscreants vandalised a newly erected statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Ezhukone in Kollam. The head of the statue was found chopped off. The chopped head of the statue was found missing on the spot. Ezhukone police have recorded a case and initiated a probe over the incident.
Two days back, a spectacle placed on the statue had gone missing. Following this, the miscreants vandalised the statue.
The official unveiling of the statue was scheduled on Monday by MP Kodikunnil Suresh.
Earlier, a pillar constructed in memory of Gandhi was also demolished by some anti-socials here. Though a case had been registered, the accused could not be nabbed yet.
The new Gandhi statue was built following this incident.
