Thiruvananthapuram: The salary of all government employees will be disbursed only through treasury from July onwards. The finance department issued an order directing the employees to open Employee Treasury Savings Bank Account (ETSB Account) for this purpose.
The move is to ensure fund in treasuries during the initial days of the month as financial crisis exists. About Rs 2500 crore is credited in the treasury as salary of the employees. In this way, the government can utilise the amount not withdrawn by the employees.
Also there are plans to give interest to those who do not withdraw money from the treasury in the initial days of the month. Employees can withdraw money using cheques and also utilise internet banking facility. This money can be transferred to other bank accounts via online.
This system was implemented in finance, general administration and treasury departments in the secretariat. The staff of other departments were able to accept their salary through treasury or bank accounts.
The salary disbursement will be shifted to treasury in two phases. In the first phase, the salary of the staff of 35 departments for the month of June will be disbursed through treasury and the rest of the departments also will follow the system from July in the second phase.
