Thiruvananthapuram: Three years after the death of a young woman director, her friends have expressed strong doubts saying it was murder. Nayana Surya (28), a former assistant of Lenin Rajendran, was found dead in her house in Thiruvananthapuram on February 24, 2019. The police probe did not reach any conclusion.

Her friends have accused the police of failing to record the 35 cm-long cut in her neck and other bruises in the inquest report. Though the postmortem report clearly mentioned that she was kicked on her abdomen, police did not probe that angle too, they allege.

A former officer also shared the opinion that the murder angle should be investigated.

Nayana was an assistant to Lenin for more than 10 years. She directed the film ‘Pakshikalude Manam’ in the anthology titled Red Cross. She has also directed several ad films.

She was found dead a month after the death of Lenin. The initial conclusion was that she had killed herself due to depression as she was undergoing treatment. Police said she fainted due to sugar variation and later succumbed as she did not get help on time.

The RD office says it has not received the postmortem or forensic reports yet. However, her friends have accessed a copy of the report. The family of Nayana has not expressed any concerns regarding the probe.

The postmortem report says that she had internal bleeding in her pancreas and kidney due to the blow she received on the abdomen. Her spleen was shrunk and broken, says the report.
