Free food kits for students registered under mid-day meals scheme: CM
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that free food kits will be distributed to all the children who have been registered in the mid-day meal scheme in schools in Kerala.
The CM informed this during the press meet held after a COVID-19 review meet here.
All students between pre-primary and Class 8 will be given free food kits containing groceries and rice. Apart from rice, there will also be different kinds of pulses, curry powder, atta, sugar and salt in the food kit.
26 lakh students in government-aided schools will benefit from this scheme. Rs 81.37 crore has been allotted for this purpose. Kits will be distributed from July first week, the CM said.
As part of the student police cadet program, 1,311 TVs, 123 smartphones, 48 laptops and 146 cable connections have been provided to students who do not have facilities for online learning.
Most number of televisions were distributed in Kannur district - 176. Most number of smartphones were distributed in Kochi city - 40. They were distributed with help of various sponsors and other individuals.
Police and volunteers will be honoured in every district for their contribution towards COVID prevention activities in the state. Appreciation certificates will also be given to them.
The CM said that Rotary clubs in Kerala have come forward with the program called ROPE (Rotary- Police Engagement) which offers jackets to the police.
