Varappuzha: In a freak accident, a trailer truck driver and three others were seriously injured after construction rods loaded on the truck hit them while during transportation.
When the driver suddenly applied a brake, the packs of rods crashed into the cabin, injuring himself and the construction workers who were on the truck with him.
The accident happened around 8.30 pm on Wednesday on NH 66 near Varapuzha. The lorry was trying to overtake another vehicle, but had to apply brakes to avoid a collision. Rods were being transported to the Valluvally area for the NH construction.
The rods pierced into the body of some of them. One was injured in the head. They were rushed to a private hospital by police and natives. The injured workers are guest workers employed by the contract agency.
Traffic was disrupted for hours due to the accident.
