Thiruvananthapuram: Local self-governments in Kerala have won four awards in the 2023 National Panchayat Awards.
Cheruthana in Alappuzha has been selected as the best child-friendly panchayat in the country. Veeyapuram Grama Panchayat in Alappuzha stands first in terms of self-sufficient infrastructure. Perumpadappu Grama Panchayat of Malappuram won second position for water sufficiency activities.
Alagappanagar panchayat of Thrissur came third in the good governance category. The awards will be presented at a function in Delhi on 17.
"The panchayats were evaluated on the basis of nine indices as per the Union Government's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)... Hearty congratulations to all the four panchayats for this prestigious achievement in competition with tens of thousands of panchayats in the country. May this achievement inspire all the local self-government bodies in the state to undertake more excellent work," noted LSGD minister MB Rajesh on Facebook.
