He happened to see the dog unattended in the Arookutty region here. The dog had wounds and was ailing. The condition of the dog was so pathetic that it could not walk or see anything.

Shaji took the dog to veterinary doctor. He used the money meant for buying the lotteries for the treatment of the dog. Interestingly, the dog is now cheerful. The dog accompanies him to the lottery shop named 'Adivasi Bagyashala' and plays with his children.

According to Shaji, besides raising his children and fostering his family, he wishes to take care of unattended beings on the streets.

His wife’s name is Pushpalatha and the couple have five children---Shamili, Shani, Shaniya, Shajin and Shajinsha.
