Former Kerala footballer Dhanaraj collapses and dies during tournament
Perinthalmanna: Former Kerala Santhosh Trophy player Dhanaraj (40) from Palakkad passed away after he collapsed on the ground during Khadar Ali Sevens Football Tournament. The incident took place at Perinthalmanna Nehru Stadium on Sunday at 9 pm.
Dhanaraj was representing FC Perinthalmanna. When the first half was about to end, Dhanaraj told referee that he was having chest pain. Soon after this, he collapsed on the ground. The doctors team present at the stadium rushed him to Moulana hospital immediately. However, he died within half an hour.
Dhanaraj has played for Kerala in Santhosh Trophy tournament and was the captain of Mohammedans in Federation Cup held in Manjeri in 2014. He had also played for leading clubs like Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
Dhanaraj is son of Palakkad Kottekkad native late Radhakrishnan and Mari. He is survived by wife Archana and daughter Sivani.
