Former additional chief secretary Dr D Babu Paul passes away
Thiruvananthapuram: Former additional chief secretary Dr. D. Babu Paul passed away here in the wee hours of Saturday. He was 78. He was under treatment in a private hospital for the past one week. The last rites will be held at Kuruppampadi on Sunday at 4 pm.
The death was caused from diabetic foot infection which affected his liver and kidneys. He suffered heart attack on Friday morning and was rushed to the KIMS hospital. Later, he suffered a multi organ failure.
He was member of the Ombudsman for local self-government institutions and also member of Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
Babu Paul passed the all India Civil Service Examination in 7th rank and the joined Indian Administrative Service in 1964. He had served in several positions including the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University, First Member of the Board of Revenue and Chief Secretary.
Babu Paul is the recipient of numerous awards including Gundert Award, Guruvayoor Nair Samajam Award, Samskara Deepam Award, Christian Literary Award and Rajiv Gandhi Award for his excellence in Civil Service.
Babu Paul is the author of a number of books. He published his first book at the age of 19. The book 'Oru Yathrayude Ormakal' was written in memory of his trip to Europe to participate in the International Student's Conference.
'Katha Ithuvare' published in 2001 is his autobiographical service story. He is the writer of the first Bible Dictionary in Malayalam 'Veda Sabda Rathnakaram'. He took 9 years to complete it.
He is survived by wife late Nirmala Paul and son Cheriyan C. Paul and daughter Mariyam C. Paul.
