Forest fire in TVM's Idinjar region consumes nearly 50 acres

Thiruvananthapuram: A wildfire at Idinjar region in Palode here consumed nearly 50 acres of forest on Friday . The affected forest land is reportedly under Mayiladumkunnu area. Forest officials from Palod range and watchers are trying to douse the flames with the help of the Vithura fire force.

The locals came across the fire spreading in the area at around 11 am. On being informed, the fire squad reached the spot. The fire is located deep inside the forest and two kilometres away from Idinjar. This area is inaccessible to fire force vehicles.

The squad has been using the firebreak method to avoid the spread of flames. In a firebreak, a gap in vegetation or other combustible material is created. It acts as a barrier to slow or stops the progress of a wildfire.

Meanwhile, the scorching sun has been accelerating the spread of flames. Idinjar region is known for being the habitat of Sambar deer. The officials are trying to douse the fire as soon as possible, said reports.
