Forest dept should pay Rs 70,000 as compensation for snake bite victim: Legal Service Authority

Paravur: The Adalat organised by District Legal Service Authority decided that a compensation amount of Rs 70,000 should be given to a boy who was bitten by a viper in front of his house. The Forest Department has to pay the compensation amount to the victim. Nayarambalam native Athul, son of Prakash, suffered a snake bite in front of his house on June 30, 2019. He underwent treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam for 15 days.

The family of the boy filed a petition, joining Malayatoor Divisional Forest Officers in the plea, with the District Legal Service Authority requesting compensation. The hospital bills and other documents were also submitted.

The bench including the Secretary of the District Legal Service Authority and sub judge Ranjith Krishnan and Advocate Laijo P Joseph considered the petition. The compensation amount for victims of wild animal attack will be given from the fund allotted to the forest department.
