Thrissur: The forest department has begun measures to trace the wild elephant spotted with a metal ring on its trunk. According to reports, this elephant was first spotted near Peringalkuty reservoir in Athirappilly on Sunday.
Palakkad native Shibu Karthika clicked a photo of this jumbo and shared it on social media. As the photo went viral on social media, environmentalist and wildlife photographer VK Arid came forward revealing that he had seen the same jumbo four years back near Anakkayam area at Vazhachal. The metal ring was seen stuck deeply on its trunk.

"I spotted the elephant in 2018 and informed the matter to the forest department immediately. But they started searching for the jumbo after 10 days. By then, the herd of elephants left the spot," said Arid.
Meanwhile, the chief forest conservator has given directions to trace the jumbo after spotting it on Sunday. Officials from three forest ranges are deployed for the mission. Vazhachal DFO R Lakshmi informed that visuals of cameras installed in three places are being examined. The officials assume that the elephant is not having any health issues.
