Forest Dept lifts night travel ban at Chethalayam after protest intensifies
Pulpally (Wayanad): The forest department stated that there is no travel restriction in the forest path at the electrical junction in Chethalayam forest range here. The department made its stand clear at a meeting held the other day after a controversy erupted over the board indicating restriction at the forest gate in the electrical junction in Veettimoola.
A board was put up at the forest gate the other day asking people to avoid night journey. Following this, a huge protest was staged under the leadership of local residents and people’s representatives. Mathrubhumi also had published news regarding the people’s concern over night travel restriction.
Panchayat president Bindu Prakash had informed that they will not approve of the night travel ban and that the issue will be resolved soon. As protest against the travel restriction intensified, forest department reconsidered the decision.
The request to avoid the area between 6.30 pm and 6.30 am has been removed. The local residents were planning a strike against the travel restriction.
