Pathanamthitta: In a bid to aid Ayyappa devotees in their pilgrimage, the forest department has developed a mobile application providing accurate location details within the forest stretch.

The application, which will operate in both offline and online modes, can be downloaded by this week, said the authorities.

The name of the app, which is in its final trial stage, will be announced by Forest Minister AK Saseendran soon.

According to officials, the app will provide information about the pilgrimage routes via Sathrakadavu, Erumeli and Mannarakkulam among others.

In addition, the presence of elephant corridors and wild animals in nearby areas, distance to the nearest restaurants will also be made available immediately.

Currently, there is no similar system available for the devotees to access location information.
