Football fever: Liquor worth Rs 49 cr sold in Kerala on Sunday

Thiruvananthapuram: The liquor sale in the state soared to new heights last Sunday, the day of the FIFA World Cup final. Reportedly, Bevco's revenue from liquor sales touched Rs 49.40 crore on Sunday.

Generally, liquor sales worth Rs 35 crore take place on Sundays. However, the sales went up last Sunday due to the football fever in the state. During festival seasons such as Onam, Christmas and New Year, liquor worth Rs 50 crore or above is sold via Bevco outlets.

As per reports, the highest liquor sale on Sunday took place in Tirur, Malappuram. Alcohol worth Rs 45 lakh was sold in Tirur alone.

Meanwhile, Vythiri outlet in Wayanad stood second with sales worth Rs 43 lakh. The outlet in Thiruvananthapuram Powerhouse road also earned Rs 36 lakhs from the sale on Sunday.
