Thrissur: 23-year-old Hareesh Kumar from Cholavantha village near Tamil Nadu’s Madurai met the former captain of the Indian football team IM Vijayan at Thrissur. This is his second meet with Vijayan. Way back in 2011, Vijayan had visited Kumar, who was taking treatment at a hospital in Thrissur after an accident at Kuthiran stretch in which he lost his both legs. Kumar then was just a class 7 boy. His unconscious condition and language barrier restricted their conversation then. But now, after a long break of 10 years, Kumar was super excited to interact with him. Interestingly, Kumar became well-versed in Malayalam during his short stay in the state for treatment. Vijayan has also learnt Tamil thanks to his roles in Tamil films. They strolled along the streets of Thrissur.

The accident happened on the night of June 16, 2011. Kumar was accompanying his father, who was driving a goods lorry to Thrissur. Kumar wanted to buy a new pair of shoes and a jersey. Unfortunately, the lorry overturned at Kuthiran stretch. Kumar lost his legs. Notably, many others too came in to support him. Apart from the treatment cost, they provided Kumar with two prosthetic legs worth Rs 12 lakhs.

Kumar presently is pursuing film studies in Chennai. His purpose of visit to Thrissur is to meet and thank all who whole-heartedly helped him.
