Strict action against misuse of ration cards

If an application for the card is received, the required actions will be made within the stipulated time and strict legal action will be taken against those who apply for the ration cards by giving false information.

Palakkad: To reduce misuse of ration cards, separate ration cards will be given only if more than one family lives in a house, after ensuring they do not share food or accommodation, said Food and Public Distribution Department officials.

If an application is received for the card, needed action will be taken within the stipulated time and strict legal action will be initiated against those who give false information. If the name of a person residing in other states is included in the card, the person will come under the category NRK (Non-Resident Keralite) followed by a reduction in their ration.

For those who live in a rented house, the card will be issued on the basis of rent slip and Aadhaar card without the consent of the building owner. A separate card can be obtained if the spouses are legally divorced. The authorities said that those who are not legally divorced but living separately would be issued the card only after getting legal advice on preparation of an investigation report and handing it over to the Director of Public Distribution.
