Flood relief: Kerala requests Rs 2101 crore; Centre gives zero
Kakkanad: The Centre refused to provide even a single rupee of the emergency relief fund requested by Kerala for rebuilding activities. The state had requested Rs 2101 crore as emergency fund in the backdrop of the flood that devastated Kerala this year.
However, it was clarified in an RTI document given by the Disaster Management Division under the Union Home Ministry that the central government did not allocate any money in this regard.
The Central only provided Rs 52.27 crore as the first instalment to the state disaster response fund in the financial year 2019-20. Apart from Kerala, Bihar which was also affected by flood was not provided any relief fund from the Centre.
The Central Disaster Management Division provided financial assistance to BJP ruled states Karnataka and Maharashtra. Rs 2441.26 crore was given to Karnataka and Rs 2479.29 crore to Maharashtra. These information were sought by RTI activist Raju Vazhakkala by filing RTI.
