Flood fund relief scam: Revenue minister orders detailed probe

Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan ordered a detailed probe into the flood relief fund scam in Ernakulam. The minister issued the order after a new report revealed that over Rs 1 cr was embezzled from the flood relief fund.

As per the order, joint land revenue commissioner M Kaushik will probe the case. The minister directed the investigating officer to submit the report within 10 days.

The official who was in charge of the investigation retired from service on May 31. Following this, the minister issued a fresh order on the probe.

CPM local leaders were also involved in the flood relief fund scam in which Vishnu Prasad, a section clerk at Ernakulum Collectorate, was named the key accused. The revenue officials found that Vishnu Prasad illegally transferred money to his own bank account and embezzled funds by using the documents of the beneficiaries.

Vishnu Prasad’s friend Mahesh, CPM Thrikkakkara East former local committee member MM Anwar, his wife Ayyanad service cooperative bank former director Kowlath, second accused Mahesh’s wife Neethu, CPM Thrikkakkara east former local committee member NN Nidhin and his wife Shintu were named as accused in the case.
