Flood aid of Rs 10,000 to be given before Onam; No salary challenge this year

The cabinet also decided not to collect one month’s salary of the staff through salary challenge.

Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet meeting has decided to complete distribution of the emergency financial aid for the flood victims within September 7. The financial aid of Rs 10,000 offered by the government will be disbursed under the supervision of the ministers in every district. The cabinet also decided not to collect one month’s salary of the staff through salary challenge.

The cabinet had decided in the previous meeting that the people eligible for flood help should be selected after an inspection by the panchayat secretary and village officer. But it had not directed the time limit for the procedure.

The list of eligible persons will be prepared under the supervision of ministers on district basis. The cabinet directed that the ministers should supervise the process directly. Though salary challenge is not implemented this year, no decision has been taken regarding the festival allowance. However, bonus will be distributed.

The cabinet also decided to reduce expenses of Onam celebrations. As the celebrations are helpful for the local artists, the strict actions like banning Onam festivities will not be taken this year, said Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran.
