Authority slaps fine of Rs 5000 on vendors found guilty of fleecing Sabarimala pilgrims


Sabarimala: As fleecing and malpractices against Sabarimala pilgrims have become rampant, the duty magistrate and other officials concerned have intervened to check the issue. The officials have taken action against some vendors involved in illegal activities.

The officials slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on a juice centre and utensils shop at Sannidhanam, Sreehari Bhavan hotel at Pandithavalam.

Some of the major issues found are:

  • A single lemon was used for serving five lemon juices
  • Rs 54 was charged for watermelon juice which was priced at Rs 43
  • Rs 150 was charged for utensil which was priced at Rs 120
  • Hotel was fleecing the pilgrims by charging exorbitant rates
  • Stale food was served
The fine was slapped against those entities who violated norms despite warnings.
