Five killed as truck rams car in Alappuzha

Alappuzha: In a tragic incident, five people were killed after a truck collided with a car on the national highway in Alappuzha. The accident took place around 1 am on Monday at Kakkazhom railway overbridge in Ambalapuzha.

The deceased have been identified as Prasad, Shiju Das, Sachin, Amal and Sumod. Reportedly, four of them are natives of Thiruvananthapuram, while one person hails from Kollam.

“The deceased are temporary employees of the canteen in Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO),” said the police.

The car collided with a rice laden truck en route Andhra Pradesh. Four passengers died on the spot, whereas the other succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Although police rushed to the scene soon after the accident, they could not get the passengers out of the car. Later, the car was cut open by fireforce officials.

“They (passengers) were on their way to a friend’s marriage,” said the victims’ relatives, who have arrived at the hospital.
