Five among missing persons have IS links: Intelligence
Kasargod: The State Intelligence on Sunday confirmed that some people among those missing from the state have connections with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). The Intelligence department has found that five persons among those missing from Kasargod have IS connection. The Intelligence department has handed over the first investigation report to DGP Loknath Behera. According to reports, Central agencies also have confirmed the involvement of the missing persons with IS.
Meanwhile, there are reports that a total of 19 people are missing from the state in connection with the incident. While 15 persons are missing from Kasargod, four are missing from Palakkad. The missing people include six women and three children.
Central agencies including Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) are conducting investigation in Kasargod.
The investigation officials visited the houses of the missing persons. Police have received some information after analysing the internet usage data of some of the missing persons. It has been found that these people were attracted to IS ideology through social media.
The police have identified the four phone numbers that were used to send messages to the missing persons. Among these, three of them are foreign numbers.
The police are trying to use the information from the WhatsApp account of Thiruvananthapuram native Nimisha, who is one among the missing persons, in the investigation.
The investigation is mainly focused on Trikaripur native Abdul Rasheed Abdulla. Police think that it was Abdulla who prompted the missing persons into joining IS.
It is said that a person called Sajid also played a major role in this regard. The investigation officials are trying to ascertain the place of the conversion and whether any institutions or organizations played a role in this.
However, the present location of the missing Keralites is not clear. The help of external investigation agencies is required to find out their present location. There are indications that the police have initiated steps in this regard.
