Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has permitted fishing using traditional boats and mechanised boats.
The permission will be granted according to number. As many as 10 labourers will be allowed in a boat.
Mechanised boats will be granted permission to venture into the sea in two stages. Fishing using small mechanised boats will be allowed from May 1. Fishing using large mechanised boats will be allowed from May 4, the Fisheries Department directed.
Maximum of 7 fishermen will be allowed on mechanised fishing boats between 32 and 45 feet long. This directive must be strictly followed, the Fisheries department said.
The boats will be granted permission to venture into the sea based on registration. Following the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, fishing using only traditional boats was allowed until now.
