Fishing allowed in containment zones, auction restricted: CM
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that fishing will be allowed in a restricted manner abiding to COVID-19 protocol from August 5 in the state. Fishermen are allowed to venture into sea in containment zones also. But fish caught in these areas should be sold only at the respective zone, said the Chief Minister while addressing the press meet here.
He also pointed out a few guidelines regarding fishing and sale during the COVID period as the ban on trawling ends in the state.
Guidelines for fishermen
All boats are allowed to engage in fishing on alternate days as per the registration number.
Fishermen are restricted from taking fish for sale outside the containment zones.
Excess fish will be taken to market through cooperative groups.
Fishermen should return to the same spot from where they ventured into the sea. They are not allowed to visit different shores.
Fish auction is completely banned in containment zones.
Harbour management societies, representatives of fishermen and related officials should form a committee and fix the price of fish and coordinate fishing-related activities.
