Fisheries minister J Mercykutty Amma had announced Rs 2000 aid for fisherfolk and Rs 1000 for related labourers who are part of welfare fund scheme during lockdown.

1,60,000 coastal families were to be the beneficiaries of this aid that was announced as new scheme during lockdown. The amount was distributed from April 10.

Though it was announced as a cabinet decision during lockdown, in the order it was mentioned as the financial help in times of sea attack in 2019.

The office of the fisheries minister said that the financial aid during 2019 was cancelled and the same was disbursed during lockdown. However, the fisheries district offices said that they have no information regarding aid during lockdown, but the amount disbursed was 2019 aid.
