Kottakkal: The financial help distributed by state government for fishermen community during lockdown was the amount announced earlier. Rs 2000 aid was announced for fishermen who lost their livelihood after sea attack in November 2019. This amount was distributed during lockdown.
Fisheries minister J Mercykutty Amma had announced Rs 2000 aid for fisherfolk and Rs 1000 for related labourers who are part of welfare fund scheme during lockdown.
1,60,000 coastal families were to be the beneficiaries of this aid that was announced as new scheme during lockdown. The amount was distributed from April 10.
Though it was announced as a cabinet decision during lockdown, in the order it was mentioned as the financial help in times of sea attack in 2019.
The office of the fisheries minister said that the financial aid during 2019 was cancelled and the same was disbursed during lockdown. However, the fisheries district offices said that they have no information regarding aid during lockdown, but the amount disbursed was 2019 aid.
When asked whether the lockdown aid would be given later, they have no answer as no information has been received from the government.
Meanwhile, Matsyathozhilali Federation State President Ummar Ottummal said that the disbursed amount was the 2019 aid and demanded that the lockdown aid should be distributed immediately.
