Chavakkad: Fish prices have increased in the wake of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The prices of King fish, Pomfret and Tuna have increased due to increase in demand and fisherfolk not venturing into sea owing to the holidays.
Fish prices this week (Last year’s price in brackets)
- King fish: Rs 750-800 (Rs 600-650)
- Pomfret: Rs 550-600 (Rs 500)
- Tuna: Rs 300-350 (RS 250)
- Bluefin Trevally: Rs 300-350 (Rs 200-250)
- Mackerel: Rs 240-250 (Rs 200)
- Prawns: Rs 280-300 (Rs 220)
Meanwhile, the price has not reached the heights of Christmas last year, said Samikkutty, a fish trader at Blangad beach in Chavakkad.
A large section of the fisherfolk catching King fish, Pomfret and Tuna belong to Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari regions.
