First batch of Hajj pilgrims from Kerala reaches Mecca
Mecca/Kochi: The first batch of Hajj pilgrims from Kerala reached Mecca via Jeddah at around 11.20 am on Sunday. They were received by Indian Hajj Mission officials led by Consul-General Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh.
The first flight -- Saudi Arabian Airlines 5747 carrying 300 pilgrims --was scheduled to reach at 10.15 am but was delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes.
By noon, the pilgrims departed for Mecca in a bus.
A total of 900 pilgrims left Kochi on Sunday in three flights. While the first flight took off around 6.45 am, the other flights departed at 11.30 am and 5.15 pm. Hajj committee coordinator E T Mohammed Basheer and Anwar Saddat MLA were among those present as the Haj flight was flagged off.
