Firecrackers stored at house explodes; 5 in a family injured

Palakkad: Five people of a family were injured after firecrackers stored at their house exploded in Malamalkkavu, here.

Prabhakaran (55), his wife Sobha (45), their daughter-in-law Vijitha (22), Vijitha’s children Nived Krishna and Ashwant were injured. Prabhakaran’s house was completely destroyed.

The accident took place at around 9 pm on Sunday. The gas cylinder at their house also exploded, which increased the seriousness of the accident. Pattambi fireforce and Thrithala police reached the spot and extinguished the fire.

Three houses near Prabhakaran’s house were also partially destroyed in the accident. The electricity lines in the area were also damaged.

Those injured were taken to a private hospital in Edappal. None of the family members have serious injuries. Prabhakaran is a firecracker employee at a nearby temple.
