Kozhikode: A massive fire broke out in the textile store ‘Jayalakshmi Silks’ at Kallai Road in Kozhikode on Saturday morning. The flames rising from the upper storey were spotted at 6.15 am. The efforts to extinguish the fire are progressing under the Fire and Safety units.

A pedestrian noticed fire after hearing cracking sounds from the top floor of the store. Two cars parked underneath the area were completely gutted. The cars caught fire when the flex boards around the upper storey melted and dropped over it.

Currently, sixteen Fire and Safety units are deployed here.

Initially, the Fire and Safety officials were attempting to pump water into the top floor from outside. As it is arduous to get inside the store, the officials are now trying to mount to the upper storey directly and extinguish the fire.
