Fire and Rescue services permit not required for buildings less than 1000 sqm
The new building construction law states that newly constructed buildings, less than 1000 square metres, do not require a no-objection certificate from the Fire and Rescue Services Department.
In such cases, the local bodies need to make sure that there is Fire and Rescue system. The new rule also states that 3-metre distance must be maintained from the entrance of the building to the road. Also roadside houses in panchayats, where the width of the roads are less than 6 metres, will have to leave a distance of 2 metres from the road. Earlier it was 3 metres.
Building construction must be completed within 10 years and can be done in 2 phases which was earlier 9 years in 3 phases. That means that a single permit will have a validity of 5 years.
Earlier Only 2.70 metre width per vehicle had to be given for parking
- Total width of the parking area will be taken into account.
- 3-metre width will be compulsory per vehicle. If the road where the vehicle is parked is one way, three and half metres will be the width. Instead, if road is two way, the width will have to be 5 metres.

Distance between buildings
Earlier Only the floor area was taken into account. Now The porch and the building area will be taken into account, which will see a 10 per cent increase in construction area.
Width of the Road
Earlier Irrespective of how big the commercial buildings are, the roads leading to it only need to have a width of 6 metres.
- If the area is less than 700 sq. metres, the road width can continue at 3.6 metres. And if the building area is larger, the width of the road will have to be 7 metres.
- If the building is larger than 12,000 metres, road width of 10 metres is compulsory
