Kottayam: Former CBI DySP Varghese P Thomas has lauded the CBI special court verdict in the controversial Abhaya murder case. He stated that judgment proved he carried out the probe in case honestly.
Varghese P Thomas, the first official who found Abhaya was murdered, expressed his happiness over the verdict while reacting to the media after the court found the accused guilty in the case on Tuesday.
Varghese P Thomas, who took voluntary retirement from CBI while he still had 10 years of service, was the first officer who found out Abhaya was murdered. He was under duress from his senior officer who wanted his findings to be hidden and the case to be writte off as a suicide. But this was flatly denied by Varghese and he quit in disgust.
He broke into tears while responding to the media.
“I investigated every case honestly. As Abhaya case was a controversial one, I did a deep investigation into it. I assured 100 percent honesty while probing the case. Now, the court’s verdict also prove that I was right,” said Varghese P Thomas emotionally.
“The truth has come out as the court found the accused guilty. Now, I don’t bother about their punishment. I am satisfied with the court’s verdict,” said the former investigation officer.
He added that it was tears of happiness.
“I took voluntary retirement to free myself from the pressure to change my findings in the case. I was forced to take such a stand as I always stood by truth. I took VRS while having 10 years more service. Now, some of my colleagues got promoted to DIG rank,” said the former official.
