Final warning from SC; Govt directs to demolish Maradu flats
Kochi: The state government has directed to demolish the illegally constructed flats in Maradu municipality here. The government is trying to execute the Supreme Court verdict to evacuate the flats and demolish it immediately. The urban affairs department has given a letter to the municipality secretary in this regard.
The government took the action following the last warning of SC to submit the report to the chief secretary within September 23. Following this, the government directed to demolish the flats within September 20.
The occupants in Holy Faith, Kayaloram, Jain Housing and Alpha Ventures should be immediately evacuated. Also a tender should be invited as early as possible to find an agency for demolishing the flats. The government has offered all help to implement the Supreme Court verdict.
The government made it clear that the occupants should be relocated before demolishing the flats and their rehabilitation should be discussed with the district administration. Meanwhile, harsh criticism has arisen against the municipality as it did not take any action though the court order was issued months ago.
