Kozhikode: The Railway authorities informed that the final decision on stopping the service of trains, including Jan Shatabdi, due to low patronage has not been taken.

There were reports that Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi Express, Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur Jan Shatabdi Express and Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Venad Special trains will stop service from Saturday onwards.

The Railway authorities from Kerala stated that though the Southern railway has taken the details of the low number of passengers, a final decision is yet to be taken.

There was a direction from the Railways Board that the trains that have very few passengers should not conduct service. It is learnt that the trains which do not have passengers for at least 25 percent of its capacity will be cancelled. A decision will be taken soon on the basis of this, the officials pointed out.

Currently, the number of passengers in Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi Express is only 24.25 percent of the seating capacity. This is 20.86 percent in Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur Jan Shatabdi Express and 13.29 percent in Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Venad Special train.

If Jan Shatabdi Express stops service, KSRTC is likely to conduct a special service at the same time with one stop in all districts. The discussions regarding this is progressing.
