Filling of explosives at Maradu Flat begins
Kochi: The filling of explosives at Holy Faith H2O in Maradu began on Saturday by 6 am. South African company Jet Demolition along with Mumbai headquartered Edifice Engineering will conduct the explosion. An expert team from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) led by R Venugopal is in Kochi and the team assessed the pre-blasting works. The permission for conducting the explosion was received on Friday evening from PESO, informed PESO deputy chief controller of explosives Venugopal.
The permission to conduct the blast was delayed as there were some modifications to be made in the application. Permission to transport the materials in explosives vans from Angamaly to Holy Faith Apartment was received on Friday morning. But the approval to fill the explosives was delayed a bit and hence work could not start. Nagpur-based firm Solar Explosives is providing the explosives which would be stored at Angamaly and Piravom. The van with the explosives is parked on the Holy Faith compound and explosive materials such as ammonium nitrate emulsion, delayed detonators and shock tubes are present. The district collector has called for a meeting on Saturday evening to discuss on the evacuation process.
Regulations in place
Once the filling of explosive materials begins, regulations will come into force and no one will be allowed to enter the compound. Only experts will be allowed to enter the premises. Those residing nearby need not have any fear. Workers will be barred from using mobiles inside the premises.
Fort Kochi sub collector Snehilkumar Singh said that evacuating those living within 200 metres of the flat will be via the backside of hotels situated close to the Holy Faith flat. The annexe building will also be evacuated.
Resident count taken
Police have begun to take an account of the number of people who live close to 200 metre of the Maradu Flat premises. The count of animals too are being taken. Police will also meet the councilors and take a count.
Drones will not be allowed to operate within 200 metre radius and strict action will be initiated against those who violate this. Those trying to have a glimpse of the explosion will be allowed to stay at a safe distance. The place will be intimated later.
